How to hand your team to someone else

Updated 10 October 2026

Only the Owner can hand a team over. Open People & Team, find the person on the Members tab, open the menu on their row, choose Make Owner... and confirm with Send offer. Nothing changes yet: the person is emailed and asked to accept. The team becomes theirs only when they do. You stay the Owner until then, and you can withdraw the offer while it waits.

For what the Owner is, see who owns a team.

Steps

  1. Open People & Team and go to the Members tab.
  2. Open the menu on the row of the person you want to hand the team to.
  3. Choose Make Owner....
  4. Read the dialog, titled "Hand [team name] to [person]?". It says we'll ask the person to accept, that nothing changes until they do, and that if they accept they become the Owner and can do everything, including paying for the team, handing it on and closing it. It also says either "You stay on the team as an Admin." or "You'll no longer be on the team.", depending on whether you have a seat.
  5. Choose Send offer.

If you have not signed in within the last 15 minutes, you are asked to sign in again first. After you do, press Send offer again.

While the offer waits, the top of the team page says "You offered the team to [person]. You're the Owner until they accept." with the day it ends, and a Withdraw offer link.

Who can receive the team?

Anyone who is on the team and has verified their email address. If someone has not verified it, the item is dimmed, and choosing it explains that they need to verify their email address before they can own the team. You cannot hand the team to yourself, to someone who is not on the team, or to a person who has been invited but has not joined.

There can be one offer at a time. To offer the team to someone else, withdraw the first offer.

What the person sees

They get an email with the subject [Name] wants to hand you [team name]'s team. It says what being the Owner means, that nothing changes until they say yes, and the day the offer ends. A button opens People & Team.

On People & Team they see "[Name] wants to hand you the team. Nothing changes unless you accept." with Accept... and Decline. Accept... opens a dialog that says what they are taking on, then Accept and become Owner. Accepting asks them to have signed in within the last 15 minutes, as handing over does.

Nobody else on the team sees the offer.

How it ends

  • They accept. The team is theirs at once. You both get an email: they get You own [team name]'s team on GetCalendario now, and you get [Name] owns [team name]'s team now.
  • They decline. You get an email saying so. You are still the Owner, and you can offer the team to someone else.
  • You withdraw it. They get an email saying the offer ended.
  • Nobody answers for 7 days. The offer ends and you get an email saying so. You are still the Owner.
  • The team changes hands another way, or is closed, before they answer. The offer ends, and they get an email saying why.
  • They leave the team, or are taken off it, before they answer. The offer ends and you get an email saying so. You are still the Owner, and you can offer the team to someone else.

What changes when they accept

  • Roles. The new Owner has every ability. If you had a seat, you stay on as an Admin. If you only paid and never took a seat, you are off the team.
  • Billing. The team's billing moves to the new Owner, and the team's billing email is updated to theirs.
  • The card on file stays. It does not change hands. While the team is still being billed, both emails say so: the card that was already on file keeps paying until the new Owner adds their own, which they do from the card link on People & Team (it opens the billing portal). If you want your card taken off sooner, the email asks you to contact support at support@getcalendario.com.
  • Open requests end. If someone had asked to take over a team whose Owner had gone quiet, that request ends and they get an email saying so. See what to do when a team Owner has gone quiet.
  • Everyone else's account is untouched. Members keep their syncs, rules and plans.

What if accepting does not go through?

A message appears on the page instead, and the offer ends. If you are still the Owner, you get an email saying they couldn't take on the team, and you can offer it to someone else. The most common reasons are:

  • The person has not verified their email address, or is not on the team any more.
  • The team already has a new Owner, for example because a takeover went through first.
  • The team is being closed. Nothing changes hands while it closes.
  • The offer had already ended.
