When your team blocks or pauses something
Updated 9 October 2026
If you are on a team and GetCalendario says your team does not allow something, or one of your syncs shows as paused "by your team", a rule set by the team's Owner or an Admin is the reason. You did not break anything, and the message usually names the rule.
You usually cannot lift a block yourself. Someone who runs the team can change the rule or give you the ability back. How rules are set is in Team policies and Team groups and permissions.
The messages, and what to do
Where a message ends "Ask someone who runs the team", ask the Owner or an Admin.
- Sharing a calendar view. You see "Can't share with" the address, then "Fabrikam's team doesn't let you share Calendar Views with people on the team." or "...outside the team.", each followed by "Ask someone who runs the team." People on the team means a teammate's sign-in address or any address at one of the team's verified domains. A link the team already stopped shows the viewer that your team no longer lets you share it. Giving you the ability back does not revive that link: you share the view again.
- Setting up backups. Home's Daily Backups tile shows "Fabrikam's team doesn't let you set up backups. Ask someone who runs the team." with no setup button. Backups already made stay, and your own storage stays connected. Switching backups off is always allowed.
- Creating syncs. "Fabrikam's team doesn't let you create new syncs. Ask someone who runs the team." Existing syncs keep running.
- Secondary accounts. "Fabrikam's team doesn't allow secondary accounts." appears when your team's rules, either the No secondaries rule or your groups, don't give you the ability to have secondaries. Accepting an invitation to be someone's secondary can fail with "...so this invitation can't be accepted." See Secondary accounts on a team.
- Connecting a calendar account. "Fabrikam's team only allows Microsoft calendars on your account." The kinds named are the ones allowed. It applies to Managed members, not Sponsored ones (see Team members: Owner, Admin, Managed and Sponsored).
- Syncing to a calendar. "Fabrikam's team doesn't allow fabrikam.com calendars to sync to gmail.com." If GetCalendario cannot tell whose the destination calendar is, the message says so instead.
A sync your team paused
A paused sync shows "Paused" with "(by your team)" and the reason under it. What you can do depends on the reason:
- A rule on the sync sends events to a calendar the team does not allow. The page says "Remove the rule that sends events to a calendar your team doesn't allow, then resume it." Remove the rule, then press Resume. Resume works once the sync no longer breaks the team's rule.
- The sync's own destination is outside the allowed domains. The page says "This sync sends to a calendar your team doesn't allow, so it can't run again. Delete it, or make a new sync to a calendar your team allows." Such a sync can only be deleted; it cannot be pointed at another calendar.
- The team is removing the sync. It shows "Your team is removing this sync." and cannot be resumed.
- The team's bill hasn't been paid. It shows "(Team name)'s team bill hasn't been paid, so syncing is paused until it is. Your team's Owner has been asked to pay." It starts again by itself when the team pays; there is nothing for you to press. See What happens if the team bill is unpaid.
If the first two both apply, the page gives the second, because removing the rule alone would not be enough. Copies the sync already made stay unless the team chose to remove them when it set the rule.
The Home card and the emails
When a rule is going to change something of yours, Home shows a card with the team's name, what changes, the date, and the items affected by name. Its button reads See what to change, or See what's affected when there is nothing you can do. You cannot dismiss it.
If the team gave people 14 days, you are also emailed on days 1, 7 and 13. If a day was missed, you get the latest one due, not each in turn. The subject is "Fabrikam's team: something to change by" the date. When a rule takes away an ability, it is "Fabrikam's team: a change on" the date, because nothing you do alters the outcome except stopping the use yourself. For a rule you can fix, the email ends "Nothing changes before then. (For most rules you can fix, the email ends "If you fix these first, nothing changes at all."; rules about signing in end only with "Nothing changes before then.") If you fix these first, nothing changes at all."
If the team chose Now, or applied a rule early, there is no countdown, and you get one email after the change saying what changed. Someone who joins the team later gets at least 14 days, or until the team's date if that is later.
What to know
- A message never shows another person's calendars or events, and the team does not see yours. See What a team can and cannot see.
- Only the Owner and Admins can change a rule.
- How leaving a team works is in Leaving, removing and releasing people from a team.
