How to reconnect a calendar account that stopped syncing
Updated 4 October 2026
If GetCalendario can no longer reach one of your calendar accounts, it pauses the connections that depend on it and emails you. To fix it, open the Home page, find the account marked Needs reconnecting, press Reconnect, and sign in with Google or Microsoft again. The paused connections start again on their own, and there is nothing to switch back on. Connections paused for other reasons, such as by you or by your plan, stay paused.
This usually happens after a password change, or when access is withdrawn from your Google or Microsoft account settings. It can also happen when a permission box was left unticked the first time you connected.
What the email says
The email is titled "Action needed: your Google Calendar connection has stopped" (or Microsoft). It names the account and gives the reason in one of two forms:
- the access we were given has expired or been withdrawn, which usually happens after a password change or when access is removed from your Google or Microsoft account settings; or
- we no longer have permission to see the calendar, which usually means a permission box was left unticked when access was granted.
It then says what has stopped: your events no longer being copied out, events no longer arriving on this calendar, or both. It also tells you how many connections were paused, and that they will start again on their own once the calendar is reconnected. A Reconnect button in the email takes you to sign in. If the first reason applied to a calendar nobody was syncing through, the email says nothing was interrupted but the account will need reconnecting before you can use it.
If the broken calendar belongs to someone else, you get a different email: "a calendar you sync with has stopped". Only the owner can reconnect it, because it is their calendar and their account, and they are emailed too.
How to reconnect, step by step
- Open the Home page. In the Accounts section, a broken account is marked Needs reconnecting, and the heading reads "1 account needs reconnecting" (or the number that applies).
- Under the account, a line says how many connections are paused because of it. Press Reconnect.
- Sign in with Google or Microsoft. If the email mentioned a permission box, leave every box ticked: GetCalendario cannot sync a calendar it is not allowed to read.
- Back on Home, the account shows Connected. Connections paused for this reason resume without you doing anything.
A healthy account has a Re-authorize option in its menu if you want to refresh the sign-in before anything breaks.
How do I know which connections are affected?
On Home, a connection that GetCalendario paused shows Paused by us. Open it and it says "We paused this because a calendar's access stopped working", and that once the owner of that calendar reconnects it, it starts again on its own. A connection you paused yourself shows Paused by you and stays paused until you press Resume. Other pauses have their own labels: Paused by your plan and Paused by your team.
The Sync status page also reports it: "We could not read [calendar] — the account may need reconnecting", and a count of paused connections that were not checked.
How quickly do you find out?
The checks of Google and Microsoft sign-ins are scheduled once a day, so do not expect the email at the moment access is lost.
What if the email says my account has been paused?
An email titled "Your GetCalendario account has been paused" is a different message. It says your trial has expired and your connections are paused, and that if you do not subscribe within a week your calendar access will be removed and your connections deleted. Reconnecting will not resume them; subscribing will. This email is sent only to accounts still on our previous connection method. See the 14-day trial and the Free plan.
What to know
- For other reasons events are not appearing, see why is my calendar not syncing.
- Only events inside your plan's sync window are looked at, whether or not a connection was paused. See how far back and forward sync goes.
